Heritage is associated with history but it is not the same thing.

Definition of Heritage

Heritage is a personal perspective on the past so it is hard to find a general definition.

Lost Heritage

Many buildings in Clophill have been lost over the years. Looking back, many residents would consider them part of their heritage and mourn their passing.

Endangered Heritage

One of the problems with preserving our heritage is that we don't always appreciate it until it is too late.

Saved Heritage

Efforts are being made to preserve our heritage.

Conservation Area

One way to facilitate preservation is to define a Conservation Area containing the buildings and other features that it is thought important to preserve.

Listed Buildings

Building of significant importance can be 'listed' which then puts legal requirements on the owners with regards to the structure and appearance of the building.

Ancient Monuments

The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 legislates to protect the archaeological heritage of Great Britain.

Section 61(12) defines sites that warrant protection due to their being of national importance as 'ancient monuments'.

The Heritage Trail

A Heritage Trail along Clophill High Street has been designed. A pamphlet describing it is available.

Children's Quiz

To complement the Heritage Trail pamphlet is a children's quiz designed for children accompanying adults on the trail.

Other walks

To encourage the exploration of our natural heritage a series of discovery walk pamphlets has been prepared.
