Including historical descriptions, maps and statistical analysis.
Data from the 1841 to 1911 censuses were transcribed and analysed using a spreadsheet.
Over the period 1841 to 1911 the number of farmers, and hence farms, stays about the same.
The main male occupation given in the censuses is "Ag. Lab.". The Agricultural Labourer (along with the horse) was the prime motive force before powered machinery was introduced.
During the latter period more people are giving named occupations such as Horsekeeper, Carter, Cowman, Plough boy, Shepherd and Dairy Maid
There is also a rise in the number of men giving their occupation as Market Gardener which suggests upwardly-mobile workforce.
